START WITH WHAT YOU NOTICED
A morning headache is a symptom—not an explanation.
A bedside phone recording may add timing and sound context from the same night. It cannot determine the cause, measure oxygen, or diagnose a sleep condition.
A SomniSense result cannot rule a condition in or out. Recurrent, severe, sudden, or otherwise concerning headaches need appropriate professional evaluation regardless of the app reading.
SHORT ANSWER
A morning headache can occur with OSA, but it is not specific to OSA. SomniSense can add a time-organized record of what its phone-audio model flagged during the same night.
Can a morning headache occur with OSA?
Yes. Mayo Clinic lists morning headaches among daytime symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea. NHLBI more broadly lists headache, frequent loud snoring, breathing that starts and stops, gasping, daytime sleepiness or tiredness, and concentration problems. A morning headache still has many possible explanations, so the symptom alone does not identify OSA or its cause.

What you can inspect from the night
- Candidate acoustic pattern type
- Model-estimated time and duration
- Marked waveform and whole-night position
- Available local audio
- Repeated patterns across several nights
BRI is a SomniSense-defined rate per estimated sleep hour. It is not AHI, and clinical AHI severity bands must not be applied to it.
Use several nights without forcing a conclusion
Record under reasonably similar bedside conditions and note whether the symptom occurred. If the two observations appear to move together, describe that as an association with the sample count attached. If they do not, that still does not rule out a medical cause.

Common questions
Does a morning headache mean sleep apnea?
No. Morning headaches have multiple possible explanations and cannot diagnose sleep apnea. Recurrent or concerning headaches deserve appropriate clinical evaluation.
Can SomniSense measure oxygen drops?
No. SomniSense uses bedside phone audio. It does not measure blood oxygen, airflow, respiratory effort, EEG, sleep stage, or anatomy.
Can an app show whether treatment fixed my headaches?
No. SomniSense can compare tagged and untagged nights as an observation, but it cannot establish treatment effectiveness or the cause of a headache.
Keep several nights of observations in one clear report.
Longer-period structured reports organize candidate acoustic events, trends, tags, sample coverage, method, and limits. Save one for your own review or share it as background for a conversation. PDF reports are currently available in English.
