FAQ · QUESTIONS I ACTUALLY GET ASKED
Questions I keep getting, with the answers I'd actually give a friend.
No marketing fluff. If a question has a hedged answer, I'll hedge. If a question has a "we don't know yet," I'll say that. The point of this page is to be useful, not to make us look perfect.
If your question isn't answered here, email service@somnisense.top. We read every message, but do not publish a guaranteed response-time SLA.
Getting Started
On a stable nightstand 1.5–3 feet (50–90 cm) from your head, microphone facing toward you, plugged in, with Do Not Disturb on. Don't put it under a pillow or blanket.
Yes — keep the phone on charge. SomniSense uses about 8–12% battery per 8 hours, but a full overnight session benefits from being plugged in.
The model is trained to focus on the loudest, closest source. If you share a bed, place the phone slightly closer to the person being monitored. We are not currently designed for two-person monitoring.
Yes. The first night delivers candidate-event evidence you can inspect. A recent personal range and tagged-night comparison need repeated, valid nights; SomniSense shows sample coverage rather than promising that one fixed night count makes a pattern reliable.
PDF reports are currently available in English. Free reports include two content structures and Pro reports cover six content directions; physical page count varies with the available evidence. These are wellness reports, not clinical sleep reports.
No. Tagging is optional. You can skip the pre-sleep dialog and SomniSense will still monitor and produce a normal report. But the Lifestyle Lab™ Factor Impact analysis only works if you tag.
Accuracy & Detection
The published benchmarks report 91.67% sensitivity and 89.01% precision for 1-second snore-event detection (five-seed means), plus 88.49% accuracy and 88.06% F1 for the compressed breathing model on 200-second windows. These are cohort-level event/window results from 80 person-nights across 40 participants, not the accuracy of an individual night’s SRI or BRI and not a diagnosis. See /accuracy for full methodology.
BRI is a product-defined rate from bedside phone audio, not a clinical event count. Phone placement, room noise, estimated sleep time, model error, and the fact that audio does not measure airflow can all affect it. A difference from your expectation does not prove undercounting or overcounting.
No. SomniSense is a wellness and self-monitoring tool, not a medical device. BRI is a product-defined rate of candidate acoustic patterns per estimated sleep hour; it is not clinical AHI and clinical severity thresholds should not be applied to it. Diagnosis requires appropriate clinical testing and a qualified clinician's judgment.
The current technical minimums are iOS 16 or later and Android 9 or later. Device compatibility can also depend on the app stores and hardware available to your account.
For candidate events with an available local clip, playback lets you inspect what the phone microphone captured. A clip adds context but does not confirm a medical event. Free includes 5 plays per night; Pro adds unlimited playback and longer retention.
Privacy & Data
No, not by default. All AI analysis happens on your device. Audio only leaves your phone if you explicitly tap Export or Share.
The current apps process sleep audio on the device. Account, subscription, aggregated sleep statistics, and report-generation data are handled as described in the platform-specific privacy notices. SomniSense does not currently claim a complete cross-product behavior analytics funnel.
Yes. In Profile → Data Management, you can delete every recording, every report, and your account, anywhere, anytime.
See /legal/privacy for the current data inventory, privacy practices, rights, and request methods.
No. We don't sell data or share it with advertisers.
Subscription & Billing
Yes. The trial applies to Pro; cancel through your purchase channel during the first 7 days to avoid the Pro charge. Free basics remain available: core first-night candidate evidence, 5 audio plays per night, and a recent 7-day trend.
The first 7 days of Pro are free. After that, $7.99 per month, or $49.99 per year (≈ $4.17/month, save 48%). Cancel through the App Store or Google Play before day 8 to avoid the Pro charge. Free basics remain available.
Through the Apple App Store (Settings → Subscriptions) or Google Play (Profile → Payments & subscriptions). Pro features remain active until the end of your current billing period.
Health & Medical
SomniSense cannot interpret an individual value medically, and BRI should not be mapped to AHI severity bands. If you have symptoms, concerns, or a persistent pattern that worries you, seek professional advice regardless of the number. Your multi-night record may provide useful context for that conversation.
The model has not been validated for users under 18. We don't recommend it for children.
SomniSense can add an independent bedside audio record that you review separately from your CPAP data. It cannot determine mask fit, residual AHI, treatment effectiveness, or whether therapy should change. Your CPAP data and clinician remain authoritative for treatment decisions.
